Summer Essentials for Families (with a little help from Costco)

Go to show description

Summer has a way of filling up quickly. One day, it’s a slow morning at home, and the next, you’re packing snacks for a park hang, heading to the beach, or trying to get everyone out the door for a full day out. Having a few go-to essentials on hand makes all the difference.

For many families, Costco is a year-round shopping destination. Not just for the staples, but for its signature “treasure hunt” experience. It’s that feeling of going in for a few things and discovering something unexpected (and hard to pass up)!

It feels especially helpful in the summer. The days are longer, plans are more spontaneous, and it helps to already have what you need at home, so you can just go.

And that usually starts with a few simple essentials you can count on. Here are some of the ones families reach for again and again:

Snacks that go the distance

From road trips to playground breaks, snacks are non-negotiable. Having a mix of easy, grab-and-go options on hand makes it so much easier to head out without overthinking it.

sun protection you won’t forget

Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are the basics you’ll reach for every time you head out. Keeping a few extras in your bag or car just makes things easier when plans shift or the day runs longer than expected.

Outdoor-ready gear

A picnic blanket, a cooler bag, and reusable water bottles are the kind of things you’ll use over and over. They make it easier to stay a little longer, get comfortable, and not feel like you have to rush home.

EASY MEAL OPTIONS

Summer days do not always follow a schedule. Having simple, ready-to-go meal options for those in-between moments can take a lot of pressure off.

The extras that make things easier

Wipes, extra layers, backup snacks. It is usually the small things that make outings smoother, especially with kids.

At the end of the day, summer is not about having everything perfectly planned. It is about making it easier to say yes when the moment comes. And when you are already stocked up, those moments tend to come together a little more easily.

If you are visiting the Festival, you can also experience a bit of that in person. Costco will be on-site Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the Activity Village with the Costco Super Savings Playground. Families can jump in, explore larger-than-life products, and even unlock an exclusive festival-only membership offer as part of the experience.
