Vancouver Kids’ Fest is the inspiration for Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh International Children’s Festival turns 25 this spring, but it should put 41 candles on its cake. It has presented events and productions from as many different countries since its
first season in 1986.

 

But if anyone should be blowing out the candles on that birthday cake, its founder Maranne Welch. She was the executive director of the Performing Arts for Children series in Pittsburgh when she
visited the Vancouver International Children Festival in 1982 and was blown away.
