Meet Miriam, our Development and Marketing Director

November 18, 2012

How long have you been with the Festival and what do you do?

I?ve been with the Festival nearly 11 years. As development director I handle all sponsorships and fundraising. As marketing director, I look after advertising and organizational branding.

What traits do you need to do your job?

You need to be a people person, communicate well and be creative.

What?s the best thing about your job?

Seeing the kids at the Festival.

What do you do for fun in your spare time?

Skiing, sailing, making music, camping, gardening.

What?s the most unusual thing you know how to do?

I can play Stairway to Heaven on the kazoo.

What artistic talent to you have; what do you wish you had?

I used to want to be an opera singer, now I just sing in the shower.

Name a place you go to be inspired and why?

Ucluelet, especially during storm season. The power and raw beauty of the West Coast is awe-inspiring; it reminds us of what is really important in life.

Name three things about your neighbourhood that makes you want to live there?

The clean air, the waterfront and the mountains.

What?s your favourite Children?s Festival memory?

The first show we did at Sunny Hill Health Centre. Watching those kids respond to the show was an amazing experience. It really hit home why we do what we do.
